Removing strays successfully to prevent ingrown hair requires a good tweezer (a small, simple square tipped pair is all you need) and proper technique. Just grasp the hair with your dominant hand by placely the tweezers squarely on the skin surface. Then pull firmly but gently in order to remove the hair with the bulb intact.
Aggressively yanking hairs can damage the follicle so that it’s no longer in alignment with the direction of hair growth. This is how permanently ingrown hairs are created, and sometimes either a painful cyst or nodule forms each time a new hair tries to push out of the follicle.
